|Weight: 25.8 grains||Fineness: .900|
|Edge: Reeded||Designer: James B. Longacre|
The only Type Two Dahlonega gold dollar and thus rare and popular among collectors. Most specimens have below average surfaces because of severe clash marks on both obverse and reverse. The obverse is usually flat struck in the centers and the reverse has weakness in the area of the date. A few examples have full dates and are extremely rare and bring a premuim when offered. Original, uncleaned 1855-D gold dollars have a green-gold or coppery-gold coloration. A few examples of this date exist with good eye appeal, most do not. Only around 80 specimens exist with only one Mint State coin known.
