Quarter Eagles 1839 - 1859 Liberty Head 1840-1859
Diameter: 18 millimeters
Weight: 64.5 grains Fineness: .900
Edge: Reeded Designer: Christian Gobrecht

1850-D
Mintage: 12,148

The 1850-D quarter eagle is most often seen in Very Fine and Extremely Fine grades. This date becomes rare in Choice About Uncirculated condition and extremely rare in full Mint State. Most specimens are weakly struck and have surfaces and luster that are below average. Original, uncleaned coins have green-gold to orange-gold coloration. There are a few 1850-D quarter eagles that are above average in all areas including eye appeal and these coins are worth a premium. Roughly 155 coins survive with only three Mint State coins known to exist.
