The 1848-D/D half eagle is a very underrated and undervalued
coin. As collectors of Dahlonega gold become more interested
in major die varieties, this coin should become more sought
after in the future. Only specimens that show a sharp, clear
trace of the first D qualify for examples of the 1848-D/D
half eagle. Only 20 specimens are known. No Mint State coins
are known.
