Half Eagle 1839 - 1861 Liberty Head 1839 - 1861
Diameter: 21.6 millimeters
Weight: 129 grains Fineness: .900
Edge: Reeded Designer: Christian Gobrecht

1846-D
Mintage: 80,294

A very rare coin in original, uncleaned high grade (Choice AU or better) condition. Not as well struck as its counterpart the 1846-D/D half eagle. Only a very few specimens exist that have problem free surfaces. On the few original, uncleaned specimens that exist coloration ranges from green-gold to orange-gold and the luster is frosty. Eye appeal on most known specimens is below average. There are two known die varieties. Less than 140 specimens survive with 3 Mint State coins known.
