Half Eagle 1839 - 1861 Liberty Head 1839 - 1861
Diameter: 21.6 millimeters
Weight: 129 grains Fineness: .900
Edge: Reeded Designer: Christian Gobrecht

1845-D
Mintage: 90,629

The 1845-D is very similar to the 1844-D in the number of specimens known to exist. The strike and surfaces on most 1845-D half eagles are average in quality. Original, uncleaned specimens have great coloration that ranges from green-gold to intense orange-gold with coppery overtones. A few high grade specimens exist that have great eye appeal, but most don't. Less than 300 coins exist with fewer than 3% known in Mint State. David Bowers recently descovered a new variety obverse die with the back of the 5 slanted forward instead of upright.
